24 Hour Vigil for Health and Wholeness

24 Hour Vigil for Health and Wholeness
noon to noon
begins on Monday, April 14th ends on Tuesday April 15th 2008

@ Los Alamos National Laboratory

In terms of your health and wholeness—including water, earth, air, people, plants and creatures—how does the profession of nuclear work impact your community’s spiritual, physical and cultural life?

Why Pray on These Days?
New Mexico and her people face new assaults from uranium mining, the nuclear fuel chain, and the plans for more robust weapons of mass destruction. This is the place to participate in spiritual healing, prayers and wisdom-seeking around this concern. These days are the time when tax payments are due to the IRS, who lets the US congress use the funds for more war and more nuclear weapons.

"Urban Environmental Monitoring: 100 Cities," by Dr. Elizabeth Wentz from Arizona State University.

You are invited to a talk entitled "Urban Environmental Monitoring: 100 Cities," by Dr. Elizabeth Wentz from Arizona State University.
This is the second in the Geography Spring 2008 Lecture Series.
It will be held this Friday, April 4th from 5-6 pm in Bandelier Hall West, Room 105.

The Urban Environmental Monitoring (UEM) project, also known as the 100 Cities Project (http://hundredcities.asu.edu/index.html), is a baseline effort to collect and analyze remotely sensed data for 100 urban centers worldwide. Our overarching goal is to use remote sensing technology to better understand the consequences of rapid urbanization through advanced biophysical measurements, classification methods, and modeling, which can then be used to inform public policy and planning. This lecture represents an overview of progress to date and future plans. Specific attention is given to research on Delhi, India and Phoenix, Arizona.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Hope to see you there,

Indigenous Planning Exchange program

You’re invited to an informal meeting and information session with Planning Professors Ted Jojola (UNM/ASU), Ian Skelton (University of Manitoba), Ryan Walker (University of Saskatchewan) to discuss the new Indigenous Planning Exchange program. Learn how you might qualify to study abroad in Canada and Mexico (with partners in Chiapas and Puebla) to learn and interact with native people on their community development efforts. Under this program, students pay their regular tuition and take courses at the host university for one semester. These courses are credited toward your own degree program. The exchange comes with a generous international housing and travel allowance!

The meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th from 12 to 1 pm, room TBA.
